The Law of Attraction – “Do you welcome everything that comes into your life?”

After my discussion about Karma in May, it seems appropriate to follow on with an explanation of ‘The Law of Attraction’. This has been made more famous by the film ‘The Secret’ (2006) and the associated book (2007). It has been written about however for over a century and even dates back to the time of the Mayans and is mentioned in various theologies.

The Basic Principle of the Law of Attraction is “Like Attracts Like”

Law of AttractionYou may have heard of or used affirmations or creative visualisations, both of which are used in many forms by self-development professionals, including myself. These build on the idea of the Power of Thought and how, if you think positively, you will attract positive experiences into your life and vice versa with negative thinking. But, even with a positive attitude, “Do you welcome everything that comes into your life?”… Probably not… You may think “I’m a positive person, why on Earth have I attracted this ‘bad’ experience?” or “This isn’t my stuff, why am I involved?” Another common question is “If the Universe manifests abundance at a mere thought, why is there so much poverty, starvation, death and suffering in the World?” but the Law of Attraction is still very valid, as is the concept of Karma and I will explain why.

Just because you think positive and create a positive goal in your Mind, it does not mean that you can step into that version of yourself later today or tomorrow. You may not have the skills, the ‘how to’ in place or the maturity to sustain what is needed personally or professionally. This is why, as I talked about in ‘Your A to B’ (March 2013), a path to your goal will be formed in your sub-conscious. Along this path you will attract the experience you need to continue towards and achieve your goal. And just like Karma being “the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence…”, your experience will grow to create the person and World you want to be and live in. Keep your focus on your Goal, be in the Moment, face each and every experience on your Path, learn and use what you learn.
